RE: NJEA Supports Marriage Equality Act

This afternoon the Senate Judiciary Committee, in an 8-4 party-line vote, approved S-1, the Marriage Equality and Religious Exemption Act. 

NJEA is supporting this measure based on our long-standing policy supporting equality under the law and against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. 

Earlier today, the NJEA News Service put out a story explaining in greater detail the rationale for our support. I would encourage you to read it for a deeper understanding of the issue. 

In addition, please print out these talking points to assist you in discussing the issue with members, the public, and the media.
